The Lives of Louis XVI and Marie Anttoniete

Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette (https://www.history.com/news/royal-weddings-gone-bad)

Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette got married on May 16 1770. They were both only teenagers at the time of their marriage, Marie only being 14 years old and Louis being 15. In 1774 Louis was sworn in as king.

Though society often portrays them as awful people, Marie and Louis were truly normal people who weren't as bad as many people think.

Marie, famous for the line "Let them eat cake" never even said that line. She was a kind woman who truly cared for people. According to Biography.com she did many things, such as give to charity, established a home for unwed or single mothers, and even at one point donated the royal silverware and made sure that the royal family ate cheaper grain so there would be more of it for everyone else. She also adopted many children, such as the orphaned daughter of a maid who died, and a Senegalese boy given to her as a gift.

Louis XVI wasn't a bad man as well. He was thrust into king hood at a young age, however he was more interested in carpentry and lock making. Also as stated by Biography.com, he made friends with the royal locksmith and learned how to make locks from scratch. Soon after that he began making his own furniture and doing lots of carpentry. More than likely if he hadn't been pushed into being a king, Louis would've been a simple carpenter. Louis was also apparently very introverted and a large bookworm.

This website was created for my Honors World History class in which we had to create a website with articles about the French Revolution. I wrote my articles about the lives and execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, the Women's March on Versailles, and the Reign of Terror. Click on any of the links up top to find my articles.
